With any change of the season, it’s natural for our bodies to experience major internal shifts - both positive and negative. Do you feel like your efforts lately are starting to hold less and less weight? Maybe you finish a project (or you don’t) you are working on and feel like it just isn’t as potent as it once was? Wake up feeling totally uninspired and stuck, with none of the right ‘tools’ to get you where you once could go effortlessly. Or, your manifestations lately have been highly unsuccessful? You could be in a creative rut.
Creativity is an energy that flows through us when we become so enveloped within the moment that our consciousness is highly targeted around one subject or action. Also known as the flow state. And it feels good. Everything else falls away and you become entranced in the creative process.

5 ways to dissolve your creative stagnation


  1. Exercise | 

    Sometimes the answer is just a workout away. Whether you’re rolling out your yoga mat and intuitively flowing to an awesome Indian Dub playlist, taking your favorite spin class, or riding your edge with HIIT, movement shakes up stagnant energy in the body. The fascial tissue is infamous for holding onto emotions and feelings, and when we don’t regularly run new energy through our body, we can find ourselves creatively stuck. Not to mention, exercise boosts our bodies natural production of feel good hormones that boost body consciousness and overall confidence. The higher the heart rate, the better. Sweat, baby, sweat.
  2. Turn off the TV and focus on expansion | 

    We are firm believers that technology is the modern cigarette, and limiting your EMF exposure from things like tablets, phones, television, and excess bluetooth is a surefire way to get clear and conscious. When we enter this state of conscious thinking, the flow state magnetizes to us. So unplug the WiFi, kill the TV, and wait for the wave.
  3. Read a magazine, cookbook, or book | 

    Everyone is inspired differently, and from our inspirations we are able to use the right side of the brain to tackle tasks usually implemented and initiated by the left side of the brain. Whether it’s scanning Tumblr for images, flipping through the pages of your favorite cookbook (we love High Vibrational Beauty by CAP), or marinating on phrases from famous and not so famous authors, inspiration finds us all in different ways. Sometimes all it takes is a new perspective, delivery of language or outlook to fill in your own creative gaps.
  4. Become entranced in an entirely new discipline. | 

    Do you feel like your still-life photography has hit an all time sucky low lately? Maybe your proposals at work aren’t flowing from mouth to ear like they did last month? Your workouts are becoming half ass and you can’t seem to find your stride again? Try picking up something entirely different, maybe even something your extremely good at - like talking big ideas with your best friends. Or cleaning your house. Or making your favorite meal. Creativity is largely a part of our relationship with self-confidence, and it can be a slippery slope when we have a couple bad days, with one piling on top of the other and becoming a never ending, growing weight of unsuccess
  5. Wait it out. |  


    Creativity is like a muscle. It needs to rest every now and then, especially after excess activity over X amount of weeks. Maybe the only way around your creative block is to just wait it out with the knowing that when it makes it’s boomerang debut, it’ll be stronger and more potent than ever before.
