Japan is just over the pond from Kauai and this past Spring Break, our very own Kate escaped to the land of Matcha, Beer, and super-groomed bed and bathrooms. Here's a peek into her seven spots you just don't want to miss when taking flight left!
7 Bada$$ Spots in Japan
AMERIKAMURA - Favorite hood in Osaka. Think eclectic street fashion, Japanese hip hop queens, Rasta style, skaters, punk, goth, designer vintage, graffiti & urban chic all rolled into one place. Plus the bars, restaurants and people watching. Supreme.
LIGHT NARA - Our favorite hipster style bar in Nara. Spent hours hanging with the locals here on multiple nights. You can dangerously commit to a whole string of 10 drink tickets. Live DJ + $3 drinks + good company = stumble in and stay for awhile.
COTOHA, KYOTO -incredible plant shop in a small alley in Kyoto. It’s like the Jungalow’s instagram exploded up there. Downstairs you’ll find a zero waste home shop, chic coffee bar, and Artifact, a gypsy style home store. Best zone of hidden shops we found in the city. The joy of wandering.
UJI - Tea tea tea. Kyoto prefecture and the city of Uji are the cradle of Japanese tea culture. Come get so cleanly green tea caffeinated your brain will literally vibrate with pleasure all day.
Mori Digital Art Museum in Tokyo - go frolic around and explore digital, psychedelic and interactive art like a little kid.
SHIGARAKI - Traditional wood fired kilns still roar in Shigaraki, wander and explore the incredible beauty of Japan’s ceramics. Don’t forget your empty suitcase.
SAO VINTAGE KIMONO -Nara. Neon, rainbow vintage kimonos pile themselves from floor to ceiling. The only hard part? Picking which groovy patterns will be yours to take home and wear all day every day.
